The stated meeting of the session of Riverside Presbyterian Church was held on Tuesday, January 22, 2008 in Knox Parlor. The elders present constituted a quorum. Rev. Dan Robinson, moderator, called the meeting to order at 7:04 PM. The meeting was opened with a devotional and prayer by C. Schmitt.
Also present were Grace Rudy, representative from the PW Coordinating Team; Debbie Burleigh, staff; and Robert Ward, elder-elect. M/S/C to grant them the privilege of the floor. M/S/C to set adjournment for no later than 9:00 PM.
CLERK’S REPORT:
Minutes of the Stated Meeting of December 11, 2007, the Called Meeting of December 23, 2007, and the Annual Congregational Meeting of January 20, 2008 were approved.
Due to their attendance at the Christmas Eve Service and the request of Ellen Tibbits, that the following be taken from the inactive roll and placed back on the active roll: Ned Tibbits, Katie Tibbits, and Nancy Tibbits. M/S/C
A letter of thanks from new member Chris Herrnkind was shared.
A note of thanks from Rev. Robinson for his Christmas gift was read.
A letter of thanks from Jamie Cummings for the program to provide lunches for the hungry was shared.
An addition will be made to the December 11, 2007 meeting minutes to remove from the active roll of the church by death during 2007 Grace Elder, June 22, and Cliff McDougal, July 7. M/S/C
M/S/C to issue a certificate of transfer for Thomas and Kathy Fleming to the Latham United Methodist Church, Huntsville, AL.
M/S/C to approve the preliminary 2007 Session Annual Statistical Report for Presbytery.
OLD BUSINESS:
M/S/so ordered, by e-mail “vote”, to rescind the motion to hold a Christmas Day service at 10:00 AM on December 25, 2007 due to staff conflicts. Consideration to the service in the future is to be taken under advisement by the Worship and Sacrament Commission.
COMISSIONS REPORTS:
Personnel: M. Reed—No report.
OMEC: J. Marshall—A check for $1000 has been sent to the Presbyterian Church in Malibu, CA that was destroyed in the fires in October. The response to requests for new, white socks and tee-shirts was great. The Angel Tree program to provide Christmas gifts for residents of Resurrection Ranch had a great response. The four groups of the Lunch Bunch continue to prepare lunches for the hungry. Crop Walk will be held on Palm Sunday, March 16, 2008.
Property: F. Boehmer--Written report received as information. The contract with Mr. Kellar, Sr. to sell the Manse will expire on the 25th and a new contract, under the same terms, needs to be signed. M/S/C to approve a price reduction on the Manse to $449,900 to be initiated at a time selected by Mr. Kellar, Sr.
Stewardship & Finance: D. Spellman—By letter dated December 11, 2007, Riverside Church was notified that Harold & Kathryn Bookbinder had established a trust fund of $499,137.37 at A G Edwards and Sons that will benefit the church. The funds are administered by Robert Sullivan, who was designated as trustee by the Bookbinders. Riverside Presbyterian Church will receive income from the trust, with specific instructions included in the trust on the use of the funds. On January 4, 2008, Larry Pals and Dan Robinson met with Robert Sullivan, the trustee of this account, at the A G Edwards office. A recap of the key points of that meeting was shared. The timing of receiving income from the trust was referred to the Stewardship and Finance Commission and the Endowment Committee for further discussion.
Care & Support: C. Schmitt—Written report received as information. The December Blood Drive resulted in 19 donors registering and 16 units collected. A total of 132 donors register and 109 united were collected for the year. The next blood drive will be Sunday, February 24.
Education: M. Gibson—Written report received as information. Kathy Coon has agreed to serve as co-coordinator of Vacation Bible School this year. Parent’s Night Out has been discontinued. A more suitable location for the church library is being sought.
Fellowship: J. Mustin—Written report received as information.
Worship & Sacrament: A. Stone—On January 6 communion was served to 121 at the Contemporary Worship Service and 224 at the Traditional Worship Service. Thirty-two Riverside Presbyterian coffee mugs were given to first time visitors in December. Christmas Eve services were well attended—215 at 5:00 PM and 365 at 7:30 PM. Rev Bob Early assisted at the 5:00 PM service.
DEACON’S REPORT:

NEW BUSINESS:
Rev. Robinson announced that the Acts 16:5 Initiative—Transformational Ministry-- will hold a workshop February 14 and 15 in Oviedo. Cost is $20 per person plus $50 for meals. He asked for volunteers to attend.
Session members were reminded that several BIRP Mission Conference Events will be held. There will also be an event February 2nd at 6:00 PM all at Eastminster.
Lollapalooza will be on February 9th.
Debbie Burleigh has received a Level I certification by the Administrative Personnel Association.
M/S/C to permit Pastor Dan to pursue participation in the Pulpit Exchange on March 30th.
Permission was granted to the Boy Scouts to sell pancake breakfast tickets.
M/S/C to call a meeting of Session February 26 at 6:00 PM for the sole purpose of examining officer-elect.
Ordination and installation of officers will be March 2.
Information from an e-mail from the Brevard Community Chorus concerning the use of church facilities for a Spring Oratorio and/or rehearsals was shared. Pastor Dan has contacted them and explained our position as to why it will not be feasible.
M/S/C to spent up to $1000 from the Memorial Fund to refurbish and reactive the church carillon.
M/S/C to approve the request of Annette and Suzanna, daughters of Joe and Gail Marshall for the use of Fellowship Hall during the late afternoon and early evening on Saturday, 27 June 2009 for a 50th wedding anniversary celebration.
J. Mustin announced the CPR training on February 2nd.
M. Reed announced that the Second Annual Spring Praise Band Fest will be Saturday, March 29 from Noon to 10:00 PM at the Cocoa Amphitheater in Riverfront Park. Ten praise bands will participate.
